These French Christmas Numbers 0-31 challenge cards are perfect for French Christmas lessons, and really do help to create a lively language learning environment. I’ve found that lessons around the Christmas period are a great time for revisiting and practising language and structures we’ve looked at over the semester. The questions are entirely in***French***, and students can develop, embed, reinforce and refresh their developing knowledge of French in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. They have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading and spelling. They’re great for helping students familiarize themselves with, and develop competence in, speaking, reading, writing and spelling in French in general, and certainly in French numbers and French Christmas vocabulary in particular. The questions range in complexity and challenge, not only in terms of calculation, but also in terms of the level of French - they are definitely aimed at advanced beginner French learners, rather than new or recent beginners. Most learners will be able to infer meaning from context / images, which have a real French Christmas theme, such as la bûche de Noël and Père Fouettard, with vocabulary and structures repeated throughout, giving learners a chance to familiarize themselves really well with them. Nonetheless, it can be useful to read through the questions with the whole class first to check everyone is able to access the language, and therefore the activity, successfully. Students really do benefit in terms of language learning if they have several opportunities to work with the cards, rather than simply working with them in a single lesson. ELEMENTARY GERMAN VOCABULARY CARDS GERMAN VOCABULARY CARDS FOR CHILDREN BEGINNER GERMAN VOCABULARY CARDS 99 GERMAN BEGINNER WORDS AND PHRASES WITH MATCHING ENGLISH CARDS AND 18-PAGE REFERENCE, RECALL AND WRITE WORKBOOK ideal for independent learning. Files are non-editable in a zipped format. They are copyright, all rights reserved. They may not be copied, rewritten, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. School licenses are available. Please read the Terms of Use. The vocabulary groups are as follows: Begrüßungen : Tage der Woche : Monate des Jahres : Jahreszeiten : Zahlen 0-20 : meine Familie : Alltagswörter : Deutsch im Klassenzimmer : Fragen und Antworten The cards are really versatile, and the set includes descriptions of a range of games and activities that students can try in German class. The Reference, Recall & Write book has 18 pages. It includes an alphabetical German-English reference list of all 99 words and phrases. The recall and write challenges help students familiarize themselves with, and really embed, the range of vocabulary in the set, and also get used to reading, writing and spelling in German. My students use their recall workbooks several times, simply covering previous answers. This means that prep and paper are kept to a minimum. There are three written recall challenges in the workbook: = Challenge 1 students write the English word or phrase from a German prompt, with all the words and phrases grouped together in the same category = Challenge 2 with this challenge, students write the words or phrases in German from an English prompt, and again, they’re all group together in the same category = Challenge 3 the final challenge ‘switches’ at each question from German to English, and lists words and phrases randomly from each category. This challenges the memory more than when the vocabulary is in the order learners first learn it in, with the additional challenge of moving between the two languages = Meine Notizen und Neuer Wortschatz encourages students to reflect on their learning and to note any new vocabulary they may learn Laminate the game cards if you can as they’re more learner-friendly, and they will remain in excellent conditional for years. It may not be copied, shared, amended, rewritten or distributed, in whole or in part, outside your own classroom in any way. The license is a single-user license only. The product is free to download, but Terms of Use still apply. I encourage my beginner Italian students of all ages and stages to build up comprehensive vocabulary banks that they can reference easily whenever they need it, and they’re also really useful for regular vocabulary audits, which really helps students map their progress and keep track of their learning. Students take responsibility for organizing their own learning materials from the very beginning of their learning, keeping them carefully in vocabulary learning files or folders. My students all have reference resource binders or files - these can have a range of formats - for instance, sticking into a large exercise book, or punching holes down the left-hand side, and adding to files. We also use twine or thick string, which young Italian learners really enjoy making. I also use this kind of vocabulary list for quick vocabulary quizzes, spelling competitions and so on, and it also works well laminated for small-group work in class time. The font size is fairly large, as ensuring that language is clear and accessible is essential for beginner language learners, as they begin to familiarize themselves with words and spelling systems in a new language. I have also uploaded a number reference sheet I give my more experienced Italian learners - it’s in landscape format, with all the numbers on a single sheet, so the font size is smaller - students who’ve been learning Italian for a while are comfortable with quite a lot of text on a single page. Have a look at it here: ITALIAN NUMBERS 0-100 LIST FREEBIE #2 https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/italian-numbers-0-100-list-freebie-2-12439282 There are two backgrounds to choose from - Italian flag, which I generally use for Italian vocabulary display, and plain. They’re really useful during the introduction phase, and we also use them for developing language skills and awareness in general. We like to do number guessing and calculation games at regular intervals too. There are two cards per 8.5 x 11 (A4) page in landscape format - the words are definitely big enough for children to be able to read - we do lots of guessing and mental math games, using these as a visual prompt. Although I tend to get my students to prepare the word wall header, I’ve included one here, as we often have both on our wall. There are two backgrounds to choose from - French flag or black wave. The cards to look great in color, but are still really nice if you prefer to print in B&W to keep costs down. The product is free to download, but Terms of Use still apply. 25 high-frequency French verbs, listed alphabetically French-English and English-French ideal as a year-round reference resource, and students find it particularly useful for exam revision, whether working in class time or at home. It’s useful for advanced beginner French students to provide a language learning map and for intermediate French students who are working with more complex language and texts, including authentic resources, and as a French vocabulary audit and enrichment. The verbs are all in the infinitive form and feature high-frequency French verbs that I work with in the advanced beginner to intermediate stages of my French learning programs. It’s important in language learning to ensure that students quickly develop a useful French verb vocabulary bank, are able to recognize high-frequency French verbs, and are confident with the meaning of those verbs in their first or home language. At that point students can move swiftly on to looking at conjugation and using the verbs in a communicative and practical context, enabling them to produce more detailed and descriptive language. This is an integral element of successful language learning. Students shouldn’t take on the task of learning long lists of verbs or other vocabulary all at once though: frequent and regular use in real-world practical contexts is far more successful at embedding vocabulary into longer-term memory. I also use the books for quick vocabulary quizzes, again at frequent and regular intervals - I simply shout out the French or English verb, the first student or team to shout out the correct answer wins a point. I’ve found this to be a really successful alternative to more formal vocabulary testing. The list is a great time-saver for teachers too - if you’re preparing resources focusing on high-frequency French verbs for your students, the list is a good starting point. There are two backgrounds to choose from - French flag, which I generally use for French vocabulary display or French grammar display, and plain. They’re really popular with my students, as they know they can just go to their reference file or folder, and find what they need. They tell me that they feel far more confident about their German when they have a good grasp of core vocab. They’re great for quick vocab quizzes too. They give your classroom a great multicultural look and feel, at the same time promoting German as a living language, featuring in the everyday life of your - and your students’ - classroom. There may be a number of countries and capital cities that students do not know, or are not aware of, so the posters can help students develop their general knowledge and understanding of European geography. I’ve included a range of islands, such as the Faroe Islands, to extend students’ knowledge of Europe a little further, and I’ve also shown some countries, for example Armenia, that are often classed as belonging either to Europe or to Asia. I’ve also included two posters for some countries, such as France, officially known as Französische Republik - you can choose either that, or the more frequently-used Frankreich to display. The posters look great displayed horizontally across a particular learning area - alphabetically works well, though non-alphabetically is perfect for a country quest activity. They’re ideal for the annual Europe Day celebration, and The European Day of Languages, as well as an all year round display. It’s definitely extra prep and expense, but I do always laminate my classroom decor posters / flashcards - they hang on the walls more easily, and I recycle them to display at different times of the school year. There are two backgrounds to choose from - Europe map or plain, so 144 posters in total. My students find this reference list really useful - every European country and its capital city in German - download it for free here: EUROPEAN COUNTRIES AND CAPITAL CITIES - REFERENCE LIST IN GERMAN https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/german-europe-countries-and-capital-cities-list-12446726 Have a browse in my store for more German resources, with special offer bundles and freebies. Please read the Terms of Use carefully. 25 high-frequency regular German verbs in the perfect tense, with some reference to the use of the auxiliary sein. There are 6 worksheets, with three differentiated conjugation challenges, each with 50 individual conjugations, in two formats: = Workbook Format: 10-page workbook, with cover page, verbs lists, six worksheets and Notes, Next Steps and New Verbs page, where students note any points they’d like to work more on, map their progress and list any new German regular verbs they learn, which helps them develop a really useful German verb bank. = Worksheet Format: worksheets can be printed out individually, or as a pack without the cover page, verbs lists and progress template, useful for quick revision, refresher, starters / finishers, and also generally saves on prep costs The answer key is a separate file with six pages, and I generally print this out as a pack for classwork, with groups of students sharing an individual pack. The worksheets also address a broad range of vocabulary and grammar points, such as direct / indirect object pronouns, negative sentences and adjectival endings. Some sentences include modal verbs and subordinating conjunctions, to ensure that students can practice locating the key verb accurately in various grammatical contexts. Students may not have engaged with all the language used at this stage, and this makes the activity equally about engaging with new language, as well as practicing and reinforcing the current language focus. There are three differentiated conjugation challenges: = Conjugation Challenge 1: each verb conjugated in sentence format across a range of pronouns, with students writing the corresponding English translation. Translating accurately is an important skill for language learners to engage with and master, and this kind of focused practice is really useful for them. = Conjugation Challenge 2: straightforward conjugation drill: each question gives a German infinitive and a target pronoun. Students write the corresponding German verb conjugation. = Conjugation Challenge 3: mirrors Challenge 1, with an increased challenge. Students write the German translation from an English sentence, to ensure that they are able to produce as well as recognize both the correct conjugation and a meaningful translation. They’re also great for multi-skill language learning - they give students structured talk opportunities and will also get them listening, reading and writing. They’re ideal for independent learning, and perfect for pair and small-group work. The cards feature language and structures that my students generally meet in the advanced beginner Spanish of their Spanish programme, including a range of tenses. The reference book includes all the questions and answers written out in Spanish. It’s an essential learning support resources for my students, who use it as a general writing frame to guide and inform their own creative writing. It’s really useful for mini-translation, whole-group pronunciation and reading-out loud practice too. We use the notes and next steps template to reflect on learning, what we might reasonably do to progress learning, and to inform and support whole-group discussion about learning in general. The question and answer writing card templates give students a great opportunity to apply Spanish practically and creatively, as they put together both questions and answers for each other. This is a great team activity too, and really popular with my students. The cards are really versatile, and work well in lots of different learning contexts, such as***independent learning time, home learning, revision and exam prep, and sub lessons***. There are also lots of other games and activities students can play - I’ve described how to play several you can start with that have been really successful with my learners. High-frequency German verbs dominoes games: 3 games and challenges are a lively alternative to more traditional grammar & vocabulary ‘drilling’ activities. They will help students build up and embed their vocabulary and knowledge of high-frequency German verbs in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. There are 99 common German verbs in the infinitive form, along with the corresponding English verbs. Students can work happily challenging themselves and each other to create a perfect domino bilingual verb sequence, on the classroom floor, or on a long(ish) table, by matching the German and English verbs. The game has a bonus multi-focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, and reading, and also helps students identify cognates and words that may look similar to English, but mean something different. There are three games, each with a different level of challenge: Challenge One features the verbs in alphabetical order, German to English Challenge Two features the verbs in random order, also German to English Challenge Three again features the verbs in random order, but this time from English to German, which works a little different in terms of vocab recall There’s a full alphabetical German-English verb list, which students find really useful as they begin to build and embed their verb vocabulary - we find it useful to have a quick look through the list prior to playing for the first time, and it’s also really good for some additional whole-group pronunciation practice. Each challenge is on a different background, so that they can be easily identified. VIELEN DANK UND VIEL SPAß BEIM SPIELEN
